Background and Objectives Many studies investigated the association between attention‐deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and substance use disorders (SUDs) but none focused on the association between ADHD and nonmedical prescription opioids such as tramadol. The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence, correlates, and consequences of co‐occurrence of ADHD and tramadol use among adults. Methods This study included 122 Egyptian adults with opioid use disorders attributed to tramadol (N = 122). Participants were recruited from the psychiatric outpatient clinic and inpatient unit of Zagazig University Hospital, Egypt. ADHD and SUDs were assessed by using the Adult ADHD Self‐Report Scale (ASRS—v 1.1) and SCID‐I criteria of DSM‐5, respectively. All participants were screened for drugs by urinalysis. Results Forty percent of the participants used tramadol alone, whereas the remaining used it with other substances, such as alcohol (51.6%) and cannabis (48.4%). Thirty‐eight cases (31%) had adult ADHD and most of them had inattentive or mixed types. Adults with tramadol use and ADHD were more likely to have a younger age of onset of tramadol use, use a higher dose of tramadol, and use it for a longer duration than those with tramadol use without ADHD. Conclusions and Discussion ADHD in adults with tramadol use is common and is associated with early‐onset, high dose, and long duration of tramadol use. Scientific Significance This is the first study to investigate the co‐occurrence of ADHD and tramadol misuse among adults.

The Mining environment is hazardous for worker's health. It can affect the mental health, triggering symptoms and diseases, such as anxiety, job stress, depression, sleep disorders, mental fatigue and other. The aim of this study was to describe and analyze the scientific literature about the mental health in mine workers and to summarize the findings. The method used was Scoping review. The principal outcomes were the following: evidence in the last 12 years in the topic was focused in four themes 1) Psychological problems & personal factors (38.2%); 2) Psychosocial problems & health related factor (23.6%); 3) Well-being (21.1%) and 4) Physical problems & organization factors (17.1%). Several affections, symptoms, characteristics or disorders were inquired about mine worker's mental health, such as job strain, unsafety experiences, poor quality of sleep, non-subjective well-being, job unsatisfaction, social-relations conflict, risk of accidents and injuries, MSDs, substance abuse, dangerous working conditions and demanding job organization, and so on. For those factors, Mining could expose to serious mental health problems to a part of their workers. It's necessary to deepen the elaboration of international policies and carry out more scientific research and suggestions to make programs on the topic.

Background and Objective: Tramadol use is an overwhelming problem in Egypt. Males and females who use tramadol differ in their sociodemographic and clinical profiles. The aim of this study was to identify gender differences in tramadol use in students at Zagazig University, Egypt. Methods: A cross-sectional study included a total of 1135 undergraduate students, aged 17 to 34 years, from both sexes; males (n=674, 59.4%) and females (n=461, 40.6%), from 10 colleges in Zagazig University. Respondents were randomly selected to assess their tramadol use utilizing the drug use disorders identification test (DUDIT) and the drug use disorders identification test-extended (DUDIT-E). Results: Tramadol use was more prevalent in male than female students (19.7% vs. 2.4%). Both smoking and alcohol use were shared predictive factors for tramadol use in both sexes. The mean years of education and cannabis use predicted tramadol use in males, while only mean age predicted tramadol use in females. Among tramadol users, males were more likely than females to be smokers, polysubstance, and cannabis users, and to have a positive attitude toward tramadol use. Conclusions: Tramadol use was common among university students, with higher prevalence among males. Sex-related similarities and differences were present. Results can guide health policymakers to develop appropriate prevention and management strategies. Population-based longitudinal studies are warranted to explore the causal relationship between tramadol use and progression to other substances in both sexes.
