Sulfate‐containing Gastric Mucus Components and Peptic Ulcer: A Possible Relationship

Abstract: Ulcer‐producing agents or procedures may act by interfering with the production of sulfate‐containing components of the gastric mucus. The rate‐limiting step in the production of sulfate‐containing mucus components may be the stimulated formation of phosphoadenosine phosphosulfate by vitamin A. Research is required to establish, or deny, a link between ulcerogenic agents and this sulfate activation reaction.
