Sulfide Sensor Based on Room-Temperature Phosphorescence of PbO/SiO2 Nanocomposite

Abstract: A new strategy for the fabrication of a sulfide sensor based on room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) of PbO/SiO(2) nanocomposite is proposed. The PbO/SiO(2) phosphor is prepared by a sol-gel method, and it produces highly emissive broad-band RTP under the irradiation of UV light. The phosphorescence intensity of PbO/SiO(2) nanocomposite could be quenched by sulfide, and the response behavior of the sensor is dependent on the value of pH of the solution. At pH 11.0, the sensor exhibits a linear response towar… Show more

“…4b, also showed good linearity between uorescence intensity and S 2À concentration with the linear equation of Y ¼ À89.855X + 544.153 (R 2 ¼ 0.9978), giving an LOD value of 5.5 nM for S 2À . Such a value is much lower than some nanocomposite (138 nM), 26 gold nanoparticles (80 nM), 27 DNA@copper nanoparticles (80 nM), 28 and nano Ag-carbon (27 nM), 29 and comparable to g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets (3.5 nM) (Table S4 †). 25 All the results indicate that the detection process was not disturbed by the variation of the pH values.…”

“…22 Reports on silica-based phosphors have noted that the highly emissive broad and stable materials were important for display and lighting technologies. 23 On this basis, a series of metal-doped nanosilica, such as TiO2/SiO2, 24,25 PbO/SiO2, 26 ZnO/SiO2, 27 and B2O3/SiO2 28 , were synthesized and have performed some excellent detection. In this study, the active phosphor of TiO2/SiO2 nanoparticles was successfully used to develop a reliable phosphorescence test kit and applied to the determination of H2O2 in a complicated bleaching effluent sample.…”

“…Sulfide ions, a kind of widespread environmental contaminant, are frequently distributed in natural water and wastewater samples where they are either used as a reactant or are produced as a by-product of manufacturing or industrial process [1][2][3][4]. Sulfide ions easily generate H 2 S gas that is responsible for the corrosion of many metals.…”
