Superconducting Magnets for the 12 GeV Upgrade at Jefferson Laboratory

Abstract: Jefferson Laboratory is embarked on an energy upgrade to its flagship continuous electron beam accelerator in order to expand the scope of its research capabilities and probe further into the structure of nuclear particles. The 12 GeV upgrade includes the design, manufacture, integration, installation and commissioning of eight different superconducting magnets in three separate experimental halls. The effort involves other national laboratories, universities and industry spanning three countries. This paper w… Show more

“…A S PART OF THE Jefferson Lab 12 GeV accelerator upgrade project [1], Hall B requires two conduction cooled superconducting magnets [2] as parts of the Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS12) Experiment. One of the magnets, the torus magnet system was subjected to a detailed Risk Assessment and Mitigation (RAM) process.…”

“…he 12GeV upgrade of the CEBAF accelerator includes upgrades to the accelerator and the experimental halls. The changes for the experimental Hall B include upgrades to the physics detectors and two new superconducting magnets [1][2][3][4][5][6]. One of those is a solenoid magnet that is currently being designed and fabricated by industry.…”
