Superficial thrombophlebitic tuberculide

Abstract: Our patient showed features identical to those of cases described by Hara and coworkers and assigned as a fourth type of tuberculide. As the lesions clinically resemble superficial thrombophlebitis, we propose the term "superficial thrombophlebitic tuberculide" rather than "nodular granulomatous phlebitis."

“…Histologically a granulomatous phlebitis is characteristic with epithelioid granulomas and Langerhans giant cells observed within the walls of cutaneous veins. Using PCR, Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA was detected in most cases 2,3 . We present a further case with these features adding support for inclusion of nodular granulomatous phlebitis into current classifications of tuberculids.…”

“…All patients responded to anti‐tuberculous therapy. A report of superficial thrombophlebitic tuberculid supports the concept of a phlebitic tuberculid 3 . A 35‐year‐old man presented with cord‐like thickenings of the superficial veins on the anteromedial lower legs.…”

“…Erythema induratum (EI), also known as Bazin disease or nodular vasculitis, is a chronic nodular skin disease that is thought consequences of immunologic reactions to dispersed antigenic components of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 1 The disease preferentially affects the posterior and anterolateral aspects of the lower legs of young and middle-aged women. 1,2 It can also occur in other locations as well as in men and children.…”
