Supramolecular Interactions Induce Unexpectedly Strong Emissions from Triphenylamine-Functionalized Polytyrosine Blended with Poly(4-vinylpyridine)

Abstract: Abstract:In this study, we synthesized a triphenylamine-functionalized polytyrosine (PTyr-TPA) through living ring opening polymerization with 4,4 -diamino-4"-methoxytriphenylamine (TPA-NH 2 ) as an initiator, and used Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to confirm the chemical structure. Photoluminescence spectroscopy revealed the photophysical properties of TPA-NH 2 and PTyr-TPA and suggested that TPA-NH 2 exhibited aggregation-caused quenching; in contrast, attachin… Show more

“… Molecular aggregation is induced by adding a sufficient amount of diethyl ether as a poor solvent to the solution. The AIEE or CIEE properties of [DP-Im][Br] and [DP-Im][TFSI] are studied using solvent pair effects. As shown in Figure S11, the PL intensities of [DP-Im][Br] and [DP-Im][TFSI] dissolved in a good solvent decreased upon increasing the volume fraction of the poor solvent. However, the solution containing 90% of the poor solvent is stirred for several hours, [DP-Im][Br] and [DP-Im][TFSI] are aggregated, and the suspension is formed.…”

“…FTIR spectroscopy can provide information about the noncovalent interactions of both polar and nonpolar groups through hydrogen bonding or dipole–dipole interactions [37,38,39,40]. Figure 4 presents the characteristic absorption signals for the (a) C=O units of MA-POSS, (b) C–H deformations of the CH 2 units of PVC, and (c) C–Cl stretching vibrations of PVC in various PVC/MA-POSS blends.…”

“…Finally, due to the interest in fluorescent-organic materials for optical applications in optoelectronic devices and as fluorescence sensors, polypeptides have been also studied for their photophysical properties. In particular, triphenyl pyridine-or triphenylamine-functionalized polytyrosine showed a similar aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behavior, which was explained as a consequence of the restriction of the intramolecular rotation mechanism for chromophoric compounds when attached to the polypeptides featured by a rigid-rod conformation [127,128].…”
