Abstract:Suprathermal ions have not been observed inside magnetic flux ropes, although energetic electrons have been extensively detected and were thought to be accelerated inside magnetic flux ropes. In this paper, we present the first observation of the suprathermal ions inside a magnetic flux rope in the Earth’s magnetotail with a spatial‐scale of tens of ion inertial length. This flux rope (FR) was propagating earthward, and its leading part was substantially compressed while its trailing part was significantly str… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
