Surface-Directed Disparity in Self-Assembled Structures of Small-Peptide l-Glutathione on Gold and Silver Nanoparticles

Abstract: Despite the key roles of L-glutathiones (GSHs) inbiology and nano-biotechnology, understanding their labile structures and hydrogen bond interactions with nanoparticles has posed a critical challenge to the scientific community. The structural conformation of GSH as a capping layer on gold nanoparticle (AuNP) and silver nanoparticle (AgNP) surfaces is investigated. In this report, we attempt to explore the material-dependent interaction of GSH with different spherical nanoparticle surfaces by employing Fourier… Show more

“…Glutathione is modied to the surface of Au seed through Au-S bonds. 41,42 When Au seed modied with glutathione is added, Au + binds to glutathione and is subsequently reduced to Au 0 . The reduced Au 0 is preferentially deposited at the higher energy sites (corners) of the Au seeds (Fig.…”

“…The recent advances in nanotechnology have allowed for cheap and rapid synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs), and these NPs have demonstrated augmented sensitivity against certain analytes and have therefore been extensively used for biosensing purposes. For example, metallic NPs such as gold and silver nanoparticles, dielectric NPs such as SiO2 or MnO2 nanoparticles, polymeric NPs, and semiconductor NPs such as CdS nanoparticles have been integrated with microstructures for efficient and sensitive biosensing [29][30][31][32][33][34][35]. Owing to their varying electrical characteristics, these different categories of NPs are suitable for varied roles in different biosensing systems.…”

“…The results showed that GSH had an effect on the redox reaction between OPD and Au 3+ and further affected the synthesis of Au NPs. In addition, GSH may coat the surface of Au NPs through strong Au-S bonds, 28 resulting in changes in the surface properties of Au NPs; these Au-S bonds may replace the NH-Au bonds during the reaction process and cause Au NPs to have a weak catalytic effect on the Au 3+ -OPD reactions. 29 As shown in Fig.…”
