Surface enhanced Raman scattering investigation of two novel piperazine carbodithioic acids adsorbed on Ag and ZnO nanoparticles

Abstract: In this work piperazine-1-carbodithioic acid (PZCDT) and piperazine-1,4-dicarbodithioic acid (PZbCDT) were synthesized. These analytes PZCDT and PZbCDT have chair conformations, which is expected to give specific surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effects on individual bands. SERS, UV-Visible, TEM and DFT methods have proved that the dithiocarbamate moiety is a potential and suitable functional group for silver and ZnO nanoparticles (AgNPs and ZnONPs). The enhancement mechanism and enhancement factors in… Show more

“…In SERS, a considerable enhancement of certain Raman bands is observed when the scattering molecules are adsorbed on rough metallic surfaces of nanoparticles of noble metals, e.g., Ag, Au and Cu. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7] The SERS effect is based mainly on two mechanisms: (1) a long-range electromagnetic (EM) effect and (2) a shortrange chemical (CHEM) effect/charge-transfer (CT) effect. The total enhancement is the result of both mechanisms (EM and CT).…”

“…AgNPs were used for SERS signal enhancement. The band at 1262 cm À1 (as the lower limit of intensity difference recording) was previously identied for intact RDX, possibly arising from CH 2 scissoring and N-N stretch vibration, [56][57][58] however in this work, nitramines were hydrolytically degraded to nitrite, undergoing diazotization-coupling. In the presence of NO 2 À emerging as the hydrolysis product, 4-ATP-modied AuNRs were diazotized, and the nal azo-dye formed as a result of NED coupling yielded the most concentration-dependent bands at 1286 cm À1 , enabling the construction of a linear calibration curve between original RDX concentration and observed SERS intensity (Fig.…”

“…This is in good agreement with the general expectation that increasing roughness can be a powerful tool to increase the Raman scattering effect . [37][38][39][40]. The surface enhanced Raman peaks of the R6G on our gold-coated 3D patterned samples, which contains SiC, C having high resistance against chemical attacks offers the possibility for high sensitivity sensors operating in harsh environment and due to the biocompatibility of SiC for detection of biomolecules, as well.…”
