Surface-Enhanced Resonance Raman Scattering-Guided Brain Tumor Surgery Showing Prognostic Benefit in Rat Models

Abstract: Glioma is the most frequent form of malignant brain tumors. Surgical debulking is a major strategy for glioma treatment. However, there is a great challenge for the neurosurgeons to intraoperatively identify the true margins of glioma because of its infiltrative nature. Tumor residues or microscopic satellite foci left in the resection bed are the main reasons leading to early recurrence as well as poor prognosis. In this study, a surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) probe was developed to intra… Show more

“…The probe comprises a gold nanostar functionalized with Raman reporter IR‐783 and observed a LOD of 5.0 pM in aqueous solution. This result showed better sensitivity of the probe for SERRS based imaging, and this was guided glioma therapy in live animal models [112] . A pH responsive functionalized with NIR active cyanine dye, IR7p through Au−S covalent bond conjugation.…”

“…SERS-based contrast agents for intraoperative imaging have higher TBR and greater photostability than those of fluorophore (ICG). [179,180] Most of researches targeted the malignant brain tumors, [181][182][183] and others concerned liver, [173] breast, [184,185] ovarian, [186] and bladder cancers. Strong enhancement and chemical stability are achieved using a gold or silver cover.…”

“…The asymmetric growth of the gold seeds in a mixture of chloroauric acid, ascorbic acid and AgNO 3 offered gold nanostars AuS (2) possessing multiple outward gold spikes. 20 The surface modication of AuS with IR7p through the Au-S covalent bonds gave nanoparticles 3. Similarly, fabrication of HS-PEG 5K -OMe and angiopep2-PEG-SH on 3 with a molar ratio of 10 : 1 offered the nal product AuS-IR7p (4).…”
