Surface molecularly imprinted polymers with dummy templates for the separation of dencichine from Panax notoginseng

Abstract: In this work, surface molecularly imprinted polymers with dummy templates were developed as the selective sorbents for preparation of dencichine from the extract of Panax notoginseng for the first time. The polymers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The performances of molecularly imprinted and non-imprinted polymers were evaluated, which included selective recognition, adsorption isotherms and adsorption kinetics. Optimization of various parameters … Show more

“…This SMIP also has good resistance which was tested by treatment at high temperatures, acid solutions, and alkaline solutions; the results indicate that the synthesized SMIP has good chemical bond resistance in its polymer. The dummy template technique with SiO2@LG‐MIP polymer can be used as a selective material for extraction of dencichine from P. notoginseng with promising market prospects in the future 47 . The schematic diagram of DMIP preparation and rebinding with dencichine can be seen in Figure 5.…”

“…The dummy template can be a molecule with a similar structural skeleton to the analyte or similar structural features and spatial configuration to those of the analyte, isotope‐labeled compounds, and fragments 32 . For example, a compound that has the same functional groups or atoms that can bind to monomers can be a dummy template because it will provide the same interactions and binding sites with the target molecule or analyte 37,47 . How to choose the dummy molecules can also be determined by a computational approach 35,45 …”

“…Dencichine (b-N-oxalyl-L-a, b-diaminopropionic acid, b-ODAP), isolated from the roots of panax notoginseng, has a high medicinal value [ 2 ]. Dencichine has been reported to show beneficial effects against numerous diseases, such as dispersing stasis and hemostasis, improving platelet number, relieving swelling and pain, kidney diseases, neuroprotection, lowering blood glucose [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ] and rheumatic diseases [ 6 ]. Natural ingredients in plants are characterized by low concentration [ 7 ], the existence of multi-component mixtures, structural diversity and similarity, which pose great challenges to the separation and purification of natural ingredients [ 8 ].…”

“…However, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPS) have very high selectivity for small molecules. In particular, surface imprinting overcomes the shortcomings of normal imprinting methods, [2][3][4] with a large adsorption capacity and a fast mass transfer rate. Imprinted core materials play an important role in the adsorption properties.…”
