Surface water quality and intensive fish culture

Abstract: Fisheries Institute in Olsztyn, Poland Citation: Teodorowicz M. 2013 -Surface water quality and intensive fish culture -Arch. Pol. Fish. 21: 65-111.Abstract. The aim of the study was to determine the impact fish farms have on water quality in rivers. An experimental system for estimating the amount of pollution produced by aquaculture and discharged into surface waters was tested through environmental research. The impact of clarifying ponds on the quality of post-production water was determined.

“…This duration of water residence depends on the morphometry and hydrology and associated with the characteristic of inflow and outflow of the reservoir. This characteristic will affect by the function of reservoirs which further result both phosphorus accumulation in sediments and losses within lakes then bound to sedimentary rocks [12]. This losses are most commonly conceptualized as a function of the area of hydraulic loading rate or mean lake depth and a putative particle settling velocity [13].…”

“…Chów ryb wymaga dobrej jakości wody doprowadzanej do stawów, bogatej w związki biogenne i o odpowiedniej zawartości tlenu [Bhatnagar, Devi 2013], które zapewniają dobry rozwój i maksymalizację przeżywalności. Wymaga również optymalnej dawki pasz i zabiegów pielęgnacyjnych (nawożenia, dezynfekowania), które mogą wpłynąć na jakość wód odprowadzanych [Teodorowicz 2013, Wezel i in. 2013.…”

“…The environmental effects of aquaculture can be managed in inland fish farming, but preventing the nutrients and other harmful substances discharging from open-water establishments is difficult, if not impossible. Regardless the farm establishment types or the fish species reared, fish farms are inevitably causing negative impacts on water quality [2].…”
