Abstract:We study the behaviour of surface waves propagating along the ionopause of the planet Mars and derive the onset criteria for unstable KelvinHelmholtz modes and negative energy waves at the Martian ionopause. Growth rate of unstable KelvinHelmholtz mode decreases with wavelength. The backward propagating waves became negative energy waves for the ionosheath velocity higher than critical velocity. It is found that short wavelength surface waves propagating along the Martian ionopause are less dispersive than lon… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
