Abstract:Under the philosophy of arithmetic topology, one would like to have an analogy between surfaces S, and p-adic fields K.In the following we describe a point of view which helps look at surfaces and p-adic fields in a "uniform way", and show that results on mapping class groups can be extended to this point of view, and thus be applied to GK , the absolute Galois groups of the p-adic field K.By moving both groups to the world of pro-p groups (for GK we take its maximal pro-p quotient, and for π1(S) we take its p… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
