Surrogate models for the prediction of damage in reinforced concrete tunnels under internal water pressure

Abstract: In the present study, the performance of reinforced concrete tunnel (RCT) under internal water pressure is evaluated by using nonlinear finite element analysis and surrogate models. Several parameters, including the compressive and tensile strength of concrete, the size of the longitudinal reinforcement bar, the transverse bar diameter, and the internal water pressure, are considered as the input variables. Based on the levels of variables, 36 mix designs are selected by the Taguchi method, and 12 mix designs … Show more

“…Recently, a little research has been conducted on reinforced concrete elements to study the possibility of using plastic bottles as cavities inside these elements in a specific zone, where the stresses are very low or equal to zero (the center of voided areas locate or nearby at the neutral axis) [16][17][18].…”

“…Because of the fast evolution of lifestyles, waste glass is created on an annual basis [20][21][22]. Unfortunately, most waste glass is not reused and is instead disposed of as residue in landfills [16]. e amount created from recycled glass containers in the United States was 11.4 million tons in municipal solid trash in 2017, (MSW).…”

“…For example, A. Shishegaran et al [3] studied the performance of a new vertical channel fishway and used gene expression programming to predict the maximum turbulence, maximum velocity, resting area and water depth of the pool in the fishway. A. Bigdeli et al [4] studied the influence of internal water pressure of reinforced concrete tunnel on its own damage and deflection. These studies reveal the relationship between flow excitation and structural performance.…”

“…With di erent alternative models, new models and di erent algorithms under di erent loads are studied, and it is found that the improved model has more advantages than the traditional one. e investigation of di erent RC structures and concrete's electrical conductivity and seismic high temperature performance was studied, and experiments under di erent conditions were carried out [8][9][10][11].…”
