Survey on broadband techniques for vibration energy harvesting

Abstract: Various energy harvesting systems have been proposed in the last years. The use of ambient energy, such as vibration energy, has evoked great interests. Most vibration-based converters generate the maximum power only when the generator is excited at its resonance frequency. To overcome this limitation, researchers focus on strategies for increasing the working bandwidth of an energy harvester. Due to the amount of different approaches for broadband energy harvesting, we suggest a categorization. This review pr… Show more

“…However, some excitations have broad bandwidth and time-varying properties in practice, e.g., wind loads and sea waves. In such a case, the linear vibration energy harvester becomes inefficient [2,3]. To overcome this limitation, the techniques of broadband vibration energy harvesting have been developed.…”

“…Energy harvesting based on nonlinear resonators can provide more efficient ambient energy converters for various frequencies [1][2][3][4] comparing to linear devices [5]. The role of nonlinearities [6] is important not only in broadening of frequency in the main resonance region but also in involving the subharmonic and superharmonic frequencies in multiple solutions.…”

“…The purpose of mechanical design is to increase the harvester's bandwidth, efficiency, and low frequency compatibility [1][2][3][4]. The purpose of the interface circuit is to rectify and condition the output voltage, and store and manage the electrical energy [5].…”
