Sustainable energy transition framework for unmet electricity markets

Abstract: Efficient energy supply is a means for people to gain access to a wide range of energy-related services. In unmet energy markets where energy supply is inadequate or lacking, such services, and the resulting benefits, are seldom attained. This has prompted research on energy transition, specifically a transition to renewable energy, to rapidly diffuse energy access in these regions. Existing energy transition frameworks are predominantly contextualised in developed economies, with little evidence of their appl… Show more

“…SEV provided data for two (2) representative customers, named school one and school two. Their proposed interventions were a combination of (a) SMI (a software as a service (SaaS) platform to help families and organizations to manage their energy) and (b) the hydraulic balance of optimal temperature (a measure of return flow temperature optimization to optimize the district heating system of the customers and save energy).…”

“…The transition towards an energy system powered by renewable energy sources (RES) is ongoing and is reinforced by remarkable progress and achievements in the field of renewable power generation. Such a transition regarding energy infrastructures is a large-scale one and is beyond the control of a single sector or entity [2]. This is where renewable energy systems cooperatives (REScoops) can play a significant and determinant role [3,4].…”

“…In order to appropriately understand the energy transition, several transition frameworks have been developed so far. Batinge et al (2019) point out four transition frameworks which extend also to transition paradigms focusing on sustainability of resources:…”

“…Transition of large-scale infrastructure, e.g. energy infrastructure, often requires changes in the ideological stance and political environment, and the responsibility to manage this transformation usually falls to policy makers (Batinge et al 2019). As Miller et al (2014) stress, energy systems are an important part of social, economic, and political life and organization.…”

“…the energy system, with the aim of synergistically achieving multiple SDGs (Sachs et al, 2019b). For example, energy decarbonization is expected to contribute directly to SDGs 3,6,7,9,[11][12][13][14][15] and to reinforce several other goals (Sachs et al, 2019b). In a similar way, SDG transformations are proposed for other areas such as education, health systems, urban infrastructure, ecosystems and agriculture, as well as digital technologies (e.g.…”
