Swarm derived electron collision cross section set for the perfluorocyclobutane molecule

Abstract: The cross section set of perfluorocyclobutane (c-C 4 F 8 ) is determined by the electron swarm method. The modification is applied to the vibrational excitation cross section and the elastic momentum transfer cross section. Our previously measured electron swarm parameters (drift velocities, longitudinal diffusion coefficients and effective ionization coefficients) in 0.468% and 4.910% c-C 4 F 8 /Ar mixtures are used for the determination of the vibrational excitation cross section. The measured drift velocity… Show more

“…Based on section 2, we are able to obtain an initial but inconsistent set of cross-sections of C 4 F 7 N. In this section, an iterative procedure is implemented to obtain a complete and self-consistent cross-section set for C 4 F 7 N that can reproduce the experimental electron swarm parameters. This wellknown technique has been described in several publications [25, 30-33, 41, 42] and has also been used for some insulating gases such as CF 3 I [30], C 2 H 2 F 4 [31], C 3 H 2 F 4 [41], c-C 4 F 8 [42]. The procedure consists of adjusting the crosssections of an initial set with the aim of progressively improving the agreement between the calculated swarm parameters and experimental data for the target molecule.…”

“…For c-C 4 F 8 gas, there had not been a full set of cross sections in 2001 when Christophorou and Olthoff [9] summed up a set of cross sections of c-C 4 F 8 including Qi, attachment Qa and neutral dissociation Qnd cross section. Later, Yamaji and Nakamura [10] determined the vibration excitation Q v and momentum transfer cross section Q m by applying the electron swarm method to the c-C 4 F 8 /Ar mixtures and pure c-C 4 F 8 gas, and adjusting Q v and Q m separately. This cross section set is consistent with drift velocities and effective ionization coefficients previously measured in 0.468% and 4.910% c-C 4 F 8 /Ar mixture and in pure c-C 4 F 8 .…”
