Abstract:Entamoeba histolytica is considered the primary species causing the parasitic gastrointestinal infection amebiasis. A cluster of amebiasis infections was identified in 2018 among men who have sex with men in New York City and was likely caused by Entamoeba dispar, traditionally considered to be non-pathogenic.
