Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured Cobalt Hexacyanoferrate

Abstract: Cobalt hexacyanoferrate (CoHCF) nanoparticles have been synthesized by mixing aqueous solutions of K3Fe(CN)6 and CoCl2 under vigorous stirring at different temperatures and following two different procedures, drop-by-drop or immediate mixing. The resulting CoHCF nanoparticles, with dimensions of several tens of nanometers, were characterized using TEM, SEM-EDX, IR, and XRD. Their electrochemical behavior was investigated in comparison with the CoHCF powder bulk compound. The CoHCF nanoparticles exhibit an elec… Show more

“…The two broad n CN absorption bands of PB-structured materials (between 2000 and 2200 cm À1 ) is the diagnostic of the C-bound metal ion and its oxidation state. 41 In this region, the CoHCF showed two peaks: one strong peak at 2162 cm À1 and a weak peak at 2099 cm À1 . The absorption band at 2099 cm À1 might be attributed to the CN stretching in the cobalt-iron cyanide (Fe 2+ -CN-Co 3+ ) of PB analogue CoHCF.…”

“…According to this result, the pristine Fe species possesses an oxidation state close to approximately (+2.3). FeCo has to be considered a mixed-valence compound as many other PBAs, therefore the (FeCo) ox notation adopted by Berrettoni et al [38,39] to describe the overall oxidation number of the metals appears to be the most appropriate way to refer to this class of materials. To complement the analysis on the XANES spectra, an independent pre-edge data treatment was performed at the Fe K-edge.…”

“…Among the different preparation methods, hydrothermal synthesis and ultrasonic conditions have been proposed for the preparation of Berlin Green (the oxidized form of PB) microcrystals [139] and PB nanocubes [140,141]. Also, nanostructures of cobalt analog of PB has been proposed [142][143][144].…”
