Synthesis and Characterization of “Ravine-Like” BCN Compounds with High Capacitance

Abstract: A series of “ravine-like” boron carbonitrides (abbreviation: BCN) were synthesized by a green precursor pyrolysis method at different temperatures (about 700–1100 °C). The highest electrochemical performance of BCN-800 (Named BCN-temperature) electrode was observed, because the “ravine-like” structure can significantly increase the contact area and improve the wettability between electrode and electrolyte. The BCN electrode exhibited ultrahigh specific capacitance 805.9 F/g (at a current density of 0.2 A/g), e… Show more

“…In addition, the broad band at around 3240 cm −1 can be attributed to the O–H and/or N–H bonds. Finally, the two small peaks detected at around 1593 cm −1 and 1008 cm −1 could be attributed to C=N and B–O , respectively [ 52 , 53 ]. On the other hand, C–N and B–C bands, usually located between 1100 cm −1 and 1300 cm −1 have not been detected, probably due to overlap with the B–N band [ 24 , 52 , 54 , 55 ].…”

“…Figure 2 shows the XRD pattern of the BCN samples. Two peaks were observed for the BCN samples, particularly the peaks of ~26° and ~43°, which are related to the (002) and (100) planes of the graphite-like structure of BCN, respectively [ 15 , 16 ].…”

“…The SEM image of BCN showed that it possesses a homogeneous distribution of BCN microspheres with two average diameters of ∼0.08 μm and 1.8 μm. Chen et al 49 synthesized a ravine-like BCN using the green pyrolysis of precursors : boric acid mixed with 2,4,6-tri(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine. The XRD analysis confirmed the amorphous structure of BCN.…”

“…The combined effect of B and N in CNTs and uniformly aligned nanotube structure are the reasons for this high performance. Using the pyrolysis approach, Chen et al 49 prepared BCN having a ravine-like architecture with the aid of boric acid mixed with 2,4,6-tri(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine. The ravine-like BCN structure possesses a lattice spacing of 0.36 nm, matching with the (002) plane.…”
