Synthesis and Characterization of Single-Phase TiC Nanotubes, TiC Nanowires, and Carbon Nanotubes Equipped with TiC Nanoparticles

Abstract: Single-phase TiC nanotubes were successfully synthesized for the first time, by the reaction of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with Ti powder at 1300 °C for 30 h. CNTs equipped with TiC nanoparticles and TiC nanowires were synthesized along with these single-phase TiC nanotubes, and the number ratio of single-phase TiC nanotubes to these other products was very small. According to the core and low-energy electron energy loss spectra taken from CNTs and the CNTs reacted with Ti powder, the ratio of Ti to C in TiC nano… Show more

“…Interstitial carbides such as TiC, TaC, and NbC, are wellknown for their high melting points, high degree of hardness, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and even superconductivity. 4,22,25,32,[41][42][43] The third sample is TiC, the most common interstitial carbide. A representative SEM image (Fig.…”

“…Nanotubes of Carbides and other Materials SiC nanowires, SiC/SiO 2 core-shell nanocables, and SiC nanotubes have been synthesized simultaneously by directly heating Si powder and multiwall carbon nanotubes . [221] Single-phase TiC nanotubes are prepared by the reaction of carbon nanotubes with Ti powder at 1300 8C for 30 h. [222] Silicon oxycarbide ceramic nanotubes can be obtained by the pyrolysis of polysilicone nanotubes using a sacrificial AM as a template. [223] In a typical synthesis, the AM templates were immersed in a mixture of low-molecular-weight silicone starting materials, such as {CH 3 (CH¼CH)SiO} n (n ¼ 3À7), named VC4, and a cyclic-type silicone bearing vinyl groups, and (CH 3 ) 3 Large-scale aligned silicon carbonitride nanotube arrays have been synthesized by microwave-plasma-assisted CVD using SiH 4 , CH 4 , and N 2 as precursors.…”
