Synthesis and thermal, mechanical and gas permeation properties of aromatic polyimides containing different linkage groups

Abstract: Two series of aromatic polyimides containing various linkage groups based on 2,7-bis(4-aminophenoxy)naphthalene or 3,3 ′ -dimethyl-4,4 ′ -diaminodiphenylmethane and different aromatic dianhydrides, namely 4,4 ′ -(4,4 ′ -isopropylidenediphenoxy) bis(phthalic anhydride), 4,4 ′ -(hexafluoroisopropylidene)bis(phthalic anhydride), 3,3 ′ ,4,4 ′ benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride, 9,9-bis[4-(3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]fluorene dianhydride and 4,4 ′ -(4,4 ′ -hexafluoroisopropylidenediphenoxy)bis (phthalic anhydr… Show more

“…The pure gas permeability measurements on films of PI‐IEs and PI‐IMs were carried out by the variable‐volume method at pressure of 6–7 bar and at room temperature (28 °C) for He, H 2 , N 2 , O 2 , CH 4 , and CO 2 . The active area of membrane was 12.4 cm 2 .…”

“…where The good solubility is due to the combination of the high number of grafted polar OH groups and aromatic rings, and the presence of hexafluoroisopropylidene units [30]. We investigated the structure of the PTA-OH by using NMR.…”

“…Moreover, the alkyl-CNC had the highest water contact angle value, indicating that substituted alkyl chains have a greater effect on the surface polarity of CNC than the acetyl group. The surface free energy of CNCs and the modified CNCs was determined by the Owens-Wendt approach, which divides the surface every into dispersive and polar contributions [38,39], according to the following equation:…”
