A new class of biologically active mineral complexes was synthesized by reacting the following metal salts: MnCl2·4H2O, CoCl2·6H2O, CuCl2·2H2O, CrCl3·6H2O, and PdCl2 respectively with 2-amino-4,6-dimethyl pyrimidine (ADMPY) and Schiff’s base resulting from the condensation reaction between benzaldehyde with p-phenylenediamine and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde as ligands have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of their CHN, thermal analysis, XRD, SEM and magnetic measurements along with their FT-IR and UV-vis spectra. The scanning electron microscope SEM measurements and the calculations on the powder XRD data indicate the nano-sized nature of the prepared complexes (average size 32–88 nm). The spectral data confirmed the coordinated ligand (HL) via a nitrogen atom of an azomethine group (-C=N-) and phenolic -OH group and NH2-ADMPY ligand with the metal ions. An octahedral geometry for all complexes has been proposed based on magnetic and electronic spectral data except Pd(II) complex, which has a tetrahedral geometry. Molecular modeling was performed for Cu(II) complex using the density functional method DFT/B3LYP to study the structures and the frontier molecular orbitals (HOMO and LUMO). The antioxidant of the complexes was studied using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH)-free radical-scavenging assays. The metal complexes were tested in vitro for anticancer activities against two cancer lines A-549 and MRC-5 cells. Cu(II) and Pd(II) complexes showed the highest cytotoxicity effect, comparable to that of other cis-platinum-based drugs. The complexes showed significant activity against fungi and bacteria.

Cancer is a progressive disease that is frequently encountered worldwide. The incidence of cancer is increasing with the changing living conditions around the world. The side-effect profile of existing drugs and the resistance developing in long-term use increase the need for novel drugs. In addition, cancer patients are not resistant to bacterial and fungal infections due to the suppression of the immune system during the treatment. Rather than adding a new antibacterial or antifungal drug to the current treatment plan, the fact that the drug with anticancer activity has these effects (antibacterial and antifungal) will increase the patient's quality of life. For this purpose, in this study, a series of 10 new naphthalenechalcone derivatives were synthesized and their anticancer-antibacterial-antifungal properties were investigated. Among the compounds, compound 2j showed activity against the A549 cell line with an IC 50 = 7.835 ± 0.598 μM. This compound also has antibacterial and antifungal activity. The apoptotic potential of the compound was measured by flow cytometry and showed apoptotic activity of 14.230%. The compound also showed 58.870% mitochondrial membrane potential. Compound 2j inhibited VEGFR-2 enzyme with IC 50 = 0.098 ± 0.005 μM. Molecular docking studies of the compounds were carried out by in silico methods against VEGFR-2 and caspase-3 enzymes.

In this study, Schiff base ligand 1,1′‐((propane‐1,3‐diylbis [azaneylylidene]) bis (methaneylylidene))bis (naphthalen‐2‐ol) based Organyltellurium (IV) complexes were synthesized with formulae C32H27ClN2O3Te (5a)\C31H25ClN2O3Te (5b)\C32H27ClN2O3Te (5c)\ C39H34N2O4Te (5d)\ C37H30N2O4Te (5e)\ C39H34N2O4Te (5f) for acquiring a potential therapeutic agent. The synthesized compounds were characterized by ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis), FT‐IR, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, mass spectrometry, molar conductance, elemental analysis, powder X‐ray diffraction and EDAX, which states that the tetradentate Schiff base ligand (HNDP) coordinated via oxygen and nitrogen atom with tellurium giving hexa‐coordinated tellurium (IV) complexes. The thermal features of the ligand and complexes were studied using thermal (TGA and DTG) technique. The biochemical behavior of the Schiff base and its complexes was assessed by examining their reactivity against various microbial strains, DPPH free radicals as well as normal and cancer cells. The complex 5c exhibited the highest inhibition activity against bacterial strains while complex 5f showed the strongest inhibition activity against fungal strains. Complexes 5e and 5f displayed the most effective suppression of DPPH free radicals. The results of in vitro cytotoxicity study revealed that complex 5a demonstrated moderate cytotoxic effect on the L929 cell lines. Complex 5c displayed a significant cytotoxic effect on the PC3 cell line. Moreover, complex 5a, 5c and 5e exhibited the best cytotoxic activity against the Saos‐2 cell line. Additionally, the structural forms of synthesized compounds were elucidated by DFT study. Furthermore, pharmacokinetic ADMET properties were estimated for their drug similarity behavior. The results advocate that complexes can be utilized as biological drugs.
