Loach, rich in nutrients, such as proteins, amino acids, and mineral elements, is being gradually favored by consumers. Therefore, in this study, the antioxidant activity and structural characteristics of loach peptides were comprehensively analyzed. The loach protein (LAP) with a molecular weight between 150 and 3000 Da was graded by ultrafiltration and nanofiltration processes, which exhibited excellent scavenging activity against DPPH radical (IC50 2.91 ± 0.02 mg/mL), hydroxyl radical (IC50 9.95 ± 0.03 mg/mL), and superoxide anion radical (IC50 13.67 ± 0.33 mg/mL). Additionally, LAP was purified by gel filtration chromatography, and two principal components (named as LAP-I and LAP-II) were isolated. A total of 582 and 672 peptides were identified in LAP-I and LAP-II, respectively, through structural analysis. The XRD results revealed that LAP-I and LAP-II had an irregular amorphous structure. The 2D-NMR spectroscopy results suggested that LAP-I had a compact stretch conformation in the D2O solution, while LAP-II had a folded conformation. Overall, the study results suggested that loach peptide could be a potential antioxidant agent and might provide valuable information for chain conformation and antioxidant mechanism research further.

T HE CURRENT research studies quercetin's potential to attenuate its effects on adult male rats' codeine-induced reproductive disorders. Twenty-four male adult rats were separated into four sets, consisting of six male adult rats in every set, and a 56-day treatment was obtained. General, the first set is control, and the second set (Q1) obtained quercetin using a gavage needle administered at a specific dosage (300 mg/kg/day). In contrast, the third set (Q2) obtained codeine(50mg/kg/day) using a gavage needle, and the fourth group (Q3) obtained quercetin and codeine until 56 days. As a result of exposure to codeine, the rats› blood concentrations of luteinizing hormone (L.H.) and testosterone (T.) decreased. Nevertheless, the administration of quercetin caused an elevation in the levels of (L.H.) plus (T.) hormones in the set (Q3) compared with the set (Q2). In group (Q2), there were changes in the testicle›s structure and tissue, mainly in the Sertoli cells. In addition, there was amyloid accumulation inside the seminiferous tubules; these cells were disarrangements and lacked germ cells. Meanwhile, rats given quercetin (Q1) showed improvement in testicular histopathological abnormalities. The present study›s findings, taking quercetin with codeine (Q3), demonstrated that quercetin consumption can attenuate the harmful influences of exposure to codeine on male reproductive function. In conclusion, this study investigated quercetin›s capability to protect rat testis from the histological damage that codeine causes by oxidative stress.

Quercetin is one of the most powerful bioactive dietary flavonoids. The in vivo biological study of quercetin is extremely difficult due to its very low solubility. However, diorganotin complexes of quercetin are more useful when contrasted with quercetin due to increased solubility. In the present study, quercetin, substituted biguanide synthesized in the form of Schiff base and its di-alkyl/aryl tin (IV) complexes were obtained by condensing Schiff base with respective di-alkyl/aryl tin (IV) dichloride. Advanced analytical techniques were used for structural elucidation. The results of biological screening against Gram-positive/Gram-negative bacteria and fungi showed that these diorganotin (IV) derivatives act as potent antimicrobial agents. The in silico investigation with dihydropteroate (DHPS) disclosed a large ligand–receptor interaction and revealed a strong relationship between the natural exercises and computational molecular docking results.
