Synthesis, Characterization and Catalytic Application of MoO3/CeO2-ZrO2Solid Heterogeneous Catalyst for the Synthesis of Benzimidazole Derivatives

Abstract: A series of MoO3/CeO2-ZrO2 catalysts with different Mo content (8 -20 wt %) were prepared by simple co-precipitation followed by impregnation method and were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopic (EDS) techniques. The prepared materials were tested for catalytic activity by the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives using condensation of aromatic aldehydes and o-phenylenediamine by conventional and microwave met… Show more

“…Similarly, MoO 3 ‐SiO 2 has been used as bifunctional catalysts for selective synthesis of 2‐benzimidazoles in the presence of H 2 O 2 . MoO 3 incorporated ZrO 2 exhibits strong solid acidity and excellent catalytic activity for use in organic transformation reactions ,…”

“…In order to find an environmentally friendly, high efficiency, low cost, high atomic and economic method for the synthesis of benzimidazoles, various heterogeneous catalytic systems such as heteropolyacid catalysts [17], modified zeolite catalysts [18], complex metal oxide catalysts [19,20], supported noble metal catalysts [21][22][23], Cu-PMO catalysts [24] and photocatalytic systems over Pt-TiO 2 [25] were recently reported. In our recent work, the direct synthesis of benzimidazoles from 2-nitroaniline and alcohol in aqueous media catalyzed by Cu-Pd/γ-Al 2 O 3 solid catalyst was studied [26].…”

“…This result agrees with our own findings concerning CuO/CeO2. In addition, Rathod et al [53] investigated the application of mixed oxides in organic reactions in an attempt to substitute these for conventional inorganic acid catalysts because the current catalysts are toxic, environmentally unfriendly and difficult to recycle. MoO3/CeO2-ZrO2 exhibited its highest activity for the catalytic synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives when the loading of MoO3 was 20 wt%, and this catalytic system was also shown to be easy to recycle and recover.…”
