SiO 2 -coated TiO 2 composite materials with enhanced photocatalytic activity under UV light was prepared by a simple catalytic hydrolysis method. XRD, TEM, UV-vis spectroscopy, Photoluminescence, FT-IR and XP spectra were used to characterize the prepared samples. The obvious shell-core structure was shown for obtained SiO 2 @TiO 2 sample. The average thickness of the SiO 2 coating layer was 2-3 nm. The interaction between SiO 2 and TiO 2 restrained the recombination of excited electrons and holes. The photocatalytic activities were tested in the degradation of an aqueous solution of a reactive dyestuff, methylene blue, under UV light. The photocatalytic activity of SiO 2 @TiO 2 was much higher than that of P25 and mechanical mixing sample SiO 2 /TiO 2 . The possible mechanism for the photocatalysis was proposed.

This type of catalysts was able to carry out the consecutive process where palladium nanoparticles catalyzed the formation of H 2 O 2 that was used as intermediate reagent for propylene epoxidation catalyzed by TS-1 nanocrystals, used as supporting active matrix. Influence of supercritical CO 2 conditions in batch reactions was evaluated together with the associated effect due to the presence of platinum promoters (Pd(Pt)@TS-1). Another reaction parameters were also considered, such as palladium loading, use of acidity inhibitors and modification of H 2 /O 2 /C 3 = ratio. Reusability studies showed the high stability of the catalysts in consecutive catalytic cycles, being possible their regeneration.

Selective Conversion of Ethane to Ethene via Oxidative Dehydrogenation Over Ca-doped ThO2 Using CO2 as Oxidant

Ca-doped ThO 2 , synthesized by solution combustion method was tested for dehydrogenation of ethane with CO 2 . Doping ThO 2 with Ca resulted in the creation of oxide ion vacancies and an increased conversion of ethane compared to pure ThO 2 . On Th 0.75 Ca 0.25 O 2 selectivity to ethene was 97 at 46% ethane conversion at 725°C. Wellknown reference catalysts like 5%Cr/TS-1 or OMS-2 showed significantly lower selectivity, but the former was more active under the same conditions.
