Synthesis, Characterization and Mechanical Properties of Nanocomposites Based on Novel Carbon Nanowires and Polystyrene

Abstract: Carbon into polymer nanocomposite is so far a common additive for the enhancement of the polymer properties. The properties of the polymer, such as thermal, and especially its mechanical properties, are improved by the homogeneously dispersed carbon nanoparticles on the polymer matrix. In this study, carbon wires in nano dimensions are, for the very first time, synthesized via the hard templating method from the silicate matrix MCM-41, and used as nano additives of polystyrene. The carbon nanowires were chemic… Show more

“…To identify the signals related to the aliphatic chain they have been marked with dots, the signals at 2920 and 2850 cm −1 correspond to the symmetric and antisymmetric extension of the C−H bond respectively, [34] and the signal at 1467 cm −1 is related to the scissor vibration of CH 2 [35] . The intensity of the bands is higher for CNT functionalized with amines compared to pristine CNT, oxidized, and functionalized using long‐chain alcohols and carboxylic acids; indicating a greater presence of aliphatic chain on the sample, as could be expected considering the results of the thermogravimetric analysis and the better surface addition of amines over oxygen compounds.…”

“…On the other hand, the spectra of a separate wt.% of the MWCNTS sample indicate oxidation on the carbon surface. 50,51 On comparing the graphs, a minimal difference between single-and double-extruded MWCNTs/ ABS nanocomposite was found. Figure 5(d) shows the peak of pure MWCNTs shows peek 406, 1045, 2975 and 3380 cm −1 in its top level.…”
