Synthesis, characterization, and photo‐responsive properties of Y‐shaped amphiphilic azo triblock copolymer

Abstract: In this study, we report the synthesis, characterization, and photo-responsive properties of a new Y-shaped amphiphilic azo triblock copolymer composed of two isotropic polyethylene glycol (PEG) blocks and an azobenzene liquid crystalline block. The azo block, with two ending groups suitable for the azo coupling reaction, is polymerized by atom transfer radical polymerization with a synthesized initiator containing two functional terminal groups. The macromolecular diazonium salts are prepared by the diazotiza… Show more

“…Interestingly, they also observed a patterned DPM under irradiation with interfering light beams. The materials used for DPM can be based on polyacrylates, ,, polyurethanes, , epoxy-based polymers ,, (with an example with a hollow microsphere), various block copolymers, or supramolecular systems with poly(4-vinylpyridine) . Wang and coworkers reported a systematic study of the DPM depending on the size of epoxy-based microparticles …”

“…However, the absorption of the abovementioned azobenzene is usually in the range of UV which greatly limits its further application. The pseudo-stilbene azobenzenes which have electron-withdrawing/donating groups on their 4 and 4′ sites are also known as push-pull azobenzenes [27]. Intense absorptions of the azobenzenes are observed in visible light benefiting from the π→π* transition.…”

“…Stitching induced fiber misalignment angle and heterogonous fiber volume fraction was considered in a fiber distortion model . Stitching fiber in the preform thickness increased impact damage tolerance in where the energy absorption from the stitching fiber fracture work in the preform total fiber volume fraction were predicted .…”
