Synthesis, characterization, coordination and antibacterial properties of novel asymmetric 1,1′‐disubstituted ferrocene‐derived Schiff‐base ligands and their Co(II), Cu(II) Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes

Abstract: Some new asymmetric 1,1'-disubstituted ferrocene-derived Schiff-bases have been prepared and used as ligands in the preparation of their Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) metal chelates. These synthesized ligands and their metal chelates have been characterized by their physical, analytical and spectral data. These have also been used for screening against pathogenic bacterial species, e.g. Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumonae and have been found to be a nove… Show more

“…This process, in turn, increases the lipophilic nature of the central metal atom, which favors its permeation more efficiently through the lipid layer of the microorganism [44] thus destroying them more aggressively. The minimum inhibitory concentration mg/mL 21 was shown by compounds ranging from 10-100 mg/mL 21 against all the microbial strains are given in Table VI.…”

“…In the UV-Vis spectra, a broad band centered at 456 nm was noted for the ligand. This band was attributed to charge transfer 1 A1g → 1 E1g in the ferrocenyl group (transition of the 3d electrons on iron to either the nonbonding or the antibonding orbitals of the cyclopentadienyl ring) [21]. The ligand is red in color, soluble in MeOH, C2H5OH, dimethylformamide, CH2Cl2 and CHCl3 and it was purified by crystallization from CHCl3.…”
