Synthesis, Characterization, Cytotoxic Activity, and Interactions with CT-DNA and BSA of Cationic Ruthenium(II) Complexes Containing Dppm and Quinoline Carboxylates

Abstract: The complexes cis-[Ru(quin)(dppm)2]PF6 and cis-[Ru(kynu)(dppm)2]PF6 (quin = quinaldate; kynu = kynurenate; dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, electronic, FTIR, 1H, and 31P{1H} NMR spectroscopies. Characterization data were consistent with a cis arrangement for the dppm ligands and a bidentate coordination through carboxylate oxygens of the quin and kynu anions. These complexes were not able to intercalate CT-DNA as shown by circular dichroism spectrosco… Show more

“…values were higher than other reported for gold(I) complexes [46,47,65], but similar to the documented interactions for potential drugs based on ruthenium or nickel [66,67]. Therefore, our complexes can be transported by BSA protein throughout the body, one molecule each of BSA according to the results of n parameter (except for C1 or C5, where two molecules of gold complex could be found in the same BSA structure).…”

“…According to the K b values observed in Table 3, there was a moderated interaction force between complex-BSA. These values were higher than other reported for gold(I) complexes [46,47,65], but similar to the documented interactions for potential drugs based on ruthenium or nickel [66,67].…”

“…Consequently, the energy delivered by the ligands to the luminescent center is reduced, due to which the luminescence intensity of Eu( iii ) also decreases. The quenching process can be expressed by the following equation: [C] + n [Q] → [C⋯ n Q] 33,34 (C = nanosheets-tta/PS, or nanosheets-dbt/PS).…”

“…Using ultraviolet–visible (UV) spectroscopy quenching of 2b, we studied the ability of DNA to bind to complex 2b [ 37 ]. With the addition of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in PBS (pH 7.4), the UV absorption curve of 2b (12.5 μM) in solution decreased (Fig.…”
