Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Spectral Analysis of Antimony Thiourea Tetra Chloride

Abstract: The synthesis of antimony thiourea tetra chloride (ATTC) single crystals by solution technique at room temperature is reported. The complex crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with four formula units of Sb[CS(NH 2 ) 2 ] 2 Cl 3 .Cl in the unit cell. The structure has been solved by direct methods and refined to a final-R value of 0.0393. The synthesized crystals are characterized by FT-IR, UV-visible and TGA-DTA techniques.

“…Bands between 224-258 cm À1 and 200-201 cm À1 are assigned to (Sb-S (terminal) ) and (Sb-S (bridging) ) vibrations, respectively [12,20,21]. Raman spectra of 1 and 3 show one (Sb-Cl) band at 304 (1) or 330 cm À1 (3) and one (Sb-S) band at 234 cm À1 (1) or 224 cm À1 (3), which classify them as monomers with cis-S and cis-Cl arrangements [22] (scheme 2a). Complexes 5 and 6 with one bridging and one terminal sulfur exhibit (Sb-S (terminal) ) bands at 257 cm À1 (5) and 258 cm À1 (6), (Sb-S (bridging) ) bands at 201 cm À1 (5) and 200 cm À1 (6) with (Sb-Cl) bands at 316 cm À1 (5) and 304 cm À1 (6), which classify them as dimeric with b,c,d-Cl arrangement [15] (scheme 2c).…”
