Synthesis of nitride phosphor using entire oxides raw materials and their photoluminescence properties

Abstract: Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ nitride phosphors application for light emitting diodes were synthesized for the first time using less‐expensive and air‐stable entire oxides raw materials, SrCO3, SiO2, and Eu2O3, through a carbothermal reduction and nitridation (CTRN) route. The reaction dynamic processes of the CTRN route and the phase components, photoluminescent properties, quantum efficiency as well as thermal stability for the resultant Sr2Si5N8:Eu2+ phosphors were investigated in detail. High‐crystalline pure Sr2Si5N8:Eu2… Show more

“…The Eu 3+ with other low-cost oxide raw materials (i.e., SrCO 3 and SiO 2 ) were applied in the synthesis of nitride phosphors. 132 The red luminescence of the phosphor was achieved at a controlled C/ O ratio (i.e., 1.5).…”

“…The concentration quenching effect due to the addition of Eu 2 O 3 significantly increased the photoluminescence intensity of the glass composites. The Eu 3+ with other low-cost oxide raw materials (i.e., SrCO 3 and SiO 2 ) were applied in the synthesis of nitride phosphors . The red luminescence of the phosphor was achieved at a controlled C/O ratio (i.e., 1.5).…”

“…To reduce the particle size, some low-temperature methods have been proposed for preparing the phosphor. Piao et al [19] and Yang et al [20] successfully obtained Sr 2 Si 5 N 8 :Eu 2+ phosphors at 1500-1550 ℃ by using the carbothermal reduction and nitridation (CRN) method, but the QE was significantly reduced to 28.4% due to the presence of residual carbon. Zeuner et al [21,22] used the ammothermal method to synthesize nano-sized Sr 2 Si 5 N 8 :Eu 2+ phosphors with a particle size of 200 nm at 1150-1400 ℃, but it is difficult to obtain a pure phase.…”

“…In contrast, the carbothermal reduction nitridation method uses metal oxide as raw material and graphite powder as a reducing agent, which can synthesize nitride phosphors at appropriate temperature at low cost. This strategy is a simple and facile route for the synthesis of nitrides [17] …”

“…This strategy is a simple and facile route for the synthesis of nitrides. [17] In this paper, novel SLSN:Ce 3 + ,Tb 3 + phosphors were prepared by a modified carbothermal reduction nitridation method at atmospheric pressure. X-ray diffraction results verified that the samples prepared were all pure phases without any impurities.…”
