Synthesis of Thinned Concentric Circular Antenna Arrays Using Modified TLBO Algorithm

Abstract: Teaching-learning-based optimization (TLBO) algorithm is a new kind of stochastic metaheuristic algorithm which has been proven effective and powerful in many engineering optimization problems. This paper describes the application of a modified version of TLBO algorithm, MTLBO, for synthesis of thinned concentric circular antenna arrays (CCAAs). The MTLBO is adjusted for CCAA design according to the geometry arrangement of antenna elements. CCAAs with uniform interelement spacing fixed at half wavelength have … Show more

“…Suatu susunan antena sirkular yang terpisah dengan jarak yang sama serta dieksitasi dengan catuan yang seragam akan memiliki direktivitas yang tinggi (lebar berkas yang sempit) namun juga memiliki intensitas side lobe yang tinggi [7]- [8]. Side lobe tersebut muncul akibat grating lobe pada pola susunan (array pattern) yang mulai muncul ketika dua buah elemen pada susunan antena terpisah pada jarak yang melebihi setengah panjang gelombang [9].…”

Assuming that all elements are isotropic sources (in all the rings), then the array factor of the considered configuration on the x-y plane with central element feeding (Figure 1) may be written as the following relation [1,4,5]: α mi the phase difference between the individual elements in the array given by:…”

“…Its benefits including the flexibility in array pattern synthesis and design both in narrowband and broadband beam-forming applications especially at the base stations (in mobile radio communications system) [2]. However, uniformly excited and equally spaced circular ring array offers high directivity but suffers from high side lobe level (SLL) [1,5].…”

“…To overcome this problem, the evolutionary algorithm is applied to work out the composite non-linear and non-differentiable problems [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]. There are many evolutionary algorithms which are used for different fields of engineering [27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35] and the optimisation of antenna problem [36][37][38][39][40]. Development of element level antenna like the dielectric resonator antenna also has been reported in [41].…”
