Synthesis, structural, DFT calculations and biological studies of rhodium and iridium complexes containing azine Schiff-base ligands

Abstract: Half-sandwich Cp*Rh(III) and Cp*Ir(III) complexes have been synthesized with N-Nʹ azine Schiff-base ligands and characterized by spectroscopic techniques. The molecular structures of some of the representative complexes have been confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis. Chemo-sensitivity activities of the complexes were evaluated against HT-29 (human colorectal cancer) cell line and non-cancer cell line ARPE-19 (human retinal epithelial cells).

“…Band at 251 nm was dedicated to π!π* and n!π* intra ligand transitions, whereas the band at lower energy region at 414 nm could be attributed to charge transfer transitions (MLCT) which occurred between ligand-metal centre interactions. [24][25][26] The mass analysis result of imine ligand was found to be consistent with proposed structure ( Figure S4).…”

“…The new rhodium(I) complex electronic absorption (UV‐vis) spectra was measured at 298 K between the range of 220‐600 nm in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and two main absorption bands were obtained at 251 and 414 nm (Figure S3). Band at 251 nm was dedicated to π→π* and n→π* intra ligand transitions, whereas the band at lower energy region at 414 nm could be attributed to charge transfer transitions (MLCT) which occurred between ligand‐metal centre interactions …”

“…Recently, our group has reported many half-sandwich platinum group metal complexes containing pyridyl azine ligands [28][29][30][31]. In continuation of our previous work, we report the synthesis of half-sandwich Cp*rhodium and Cp*iridium complexes containing pyrazine based ligands.…”
