Synthesis, Structure, and Catalytic Activity of Au/Poly(ethylene terephthalate) Composites

Abstract: A standard technique of electroless gold deposition was modied by changing the composition of Ag-based activation solution. This allows preparation of two types of poly(ethyleneterephthalate) (PET) track etched membranes coated entirely with gold after 1, 5, and 24 h of reaction at 4• C. After dissolving the polymer template, gold nanotubes with outer diameter of 7080 nm were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diraction. Reduction of p-nitrophenol to … Show more

“…Noble gold and silver nanotubes (NTs) embedded in porous matrices are an important class of functional composites and have attracted significant attention in recent time because of their unique properties and prospective application as electrochemical electrodes [1][2] or sensors [3][4][5], heterogeneous catalysts [6][7] and flowthrough reactors [8] as well as in medicine [9][10].…”

“…The features of obtaining such templates are described in detail in [24][25][26][27]. The deposition of gold into SiO 2 pores was carried out by the means of wet chemistry from the gold (I) sulfite complex (Na)[Au(SO 3 ) 2 ] prepared according to the methods [22] and a gold chloride solution AuCl 3 •H 2 O. The temperature of the solution was 0, 25 and 50°C.…”

“…Considering the fact that gold based NSs are void of such problem [19][20][21], in this work an attempt of gold NSs selective deposition in the pores of the SiO 2 /Si template is made. To obtain the NSs, the technique described in [22] was taken as the basis. Also, the first experiments on gold NSs deposition into a porous template from a solution of gold chloride were carried out.…”

“…The PET film was irradiated with Kr ions and etched in sodium hydroxide solution 2.2 M at 85 o C for 75 s to provide formation of cylindrical pores in size of the 100±5 nm and the deposition of Au and Ag nanotubes were carried out by low electrodeposition technique. In recent days, the embedded of noble gold and silver nanotubes (NTs) in porous membranes are an important trend of functional composites to their unique properties and potential application in sensors [42] or electrochemical electrodes [43], heterogeneous catalysts [44] and in flow through reactors, also in medicine [41,45].…”
