Yao (2010) Anion channel structure through packing of cucurbit[5]uril-Pb 2+ or cucurbit[5]uril-Hg In this study, complexes {[Pb 4 (C 30 H 30 N 20 O 10 ) 2 Cl 2 ]Cl 2 (H 2 O) 2 }PbCl 6 Á 12H 2 O (1) and [Hg(C 30 H 30 N 20 O 10 )Cl 2 ]HgCl 2À 4 ðH 3 OÞ 2þ 2 Á 6H 2 O (2) have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that water-soluble toxic metal ions, Pb 2þ and Hg 2þ , can be chelated by cucurbit[5]uril to form molecular capsule and molecular bowl. Moreover, solid-state packing of these molecular capsule or molecular bowl shows the formation of a channel, in which octahedral [PbCl 6 ] 4À or tetrahedral [HgCl 4 ] 2À anions were encapsulated.
