Synthesis, Surface Activity, and Antifogging Property of Triethanolamine Monolaurate Ester

Abstract: Triethanolamine monolaurate ester was synthesized by lauric acid and triethanolamine (TEA) with a molar ratio around 1:1 and the esterification process was investigated and optimized. The esterification product of lauric acid with TEA was characterized by infrared spectra and nuclear magnetic resonance. The surface tension (γ CMC) at the critical micelle concentration (CMC) was determined, and the antifogging properties of triethanolamine laurate ester on low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films were also measure… Show more

“…A diluted solution of selected cleaning agent with optimized ratio was taken and with the help of a dropper, a non-ionic surfactant such as Lutensol 30, Lutensol 60, Lutensol 80, and Lutensol 90 was added simultaneously and stirred giving a greasy effect to the solution. Again, the aforementioned parameters were determined and the most suitable proportion was locked and used for the next part of the experiment (Cai et al, 2015).…”

“…The techniques mentioned above cover the most common bottom-up approaches for producing anti-fogging surfaces; however, other not less important ones have not been addressed here. These include: solvent casting methods [215][216][217]; bar coating methods [218][219][220][221][222][223]; spray coating techniques [91,[224][225][226]; and multi-step approaches [227,228].…”

“…The problems also appear when sunlight energy is to be maximally used, e.g. in hothouses where dew can significantly reduce light transmittance leading to decreased yield [9]. Dew deposition on photovoltaic panels also reduces their effectiveness [10].…”
