Synthetic, structural, and antimicrobial studies of organotin(IV) complexes of semicarbazone, thiosemicarbazone derived from 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde

Abstract: Reaction of dibutyltin dichloride, dimethyltin dichloride, and tributyltin chloride with ligands derived from thiosemicarbazone and semicarbazone leads to the formation of a new series of organotin(IV) complexes of general formula R 2 SnCl 2 ÁL and R 3 SnClÁL (where L ligands derived from the condensation of thiosemicarbazide and semicarbazide with 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde). The authenticity of these ligands and their metal complexes have been established on the basis of elemental analysis, conductance … Show more

“…This test was performed using the diffusion agar technique [39]. The sensitivity of a microorganism to antibio-tics and other antimicrobial agents was determined by the assay plates, which were incubated at 28˚C for 2 days (for fungi) and at 37˚C for 1 day (for bacteria).…”

“…Similarly, in 1:2 complexes of the type [R 2 SnCl 2 Á2LH] (where R = CH 3 or C 4 H 10 ), a sharp singlet appeared in the region -47.6 to -79.2 ppm with a shift difference of about 170.6-216.2 ppm as compared to the starting materials. On the basis of these observed chemical shift differences, it is reasonable to assume that the coordination number of tin in the complexes of the types [R 2 SnCl 2 ÁLH] and [R 2 SnCl 2 Á2LH] is five and six, respectively [24,25].…”

“…Synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity against Bacillus cereus (MTCC 0430) and Enterobacter aerogenes (MTCC 2824) at various concentrations 25, 50 and 100 μg by the agar Well Diffusion method [26]. 5 ml aliquot of nutrient broth was inoculated with the test organisms and incubated at 37˚C for 24 hours.…”
