System Interoperability Study for Healthcare Information System with Web Services

Abstract: This paper describes the use of a new distributed middleware technology 'Web Services' in the proposed Healthcare Information System (HIS) to address the issue of system interoperability raised from existing Healthcare Information systems. With the development of HISs, hospitals and healthcare institutes have been building their own HISs for processing massive healthcare data, such as, systems built up for hospitals under the NHS (National Health Service) to manage patients' records. Nowadays many healthcare p… Show more

“…Batta and Mukherjee stated that web service technologies have been proposed in response to some interoperability challenges of heterogeneous health information systems (HIS). They also stated that service oriented architecture based on message is a pragmatic approach to solve integration problems of HIS [20]. Most important steps to integrate hospital information systems, including to Perform a complete analysis to understand various aspects of the system, Understanding the function of the system components and the relationship between them to achieve a basis for designing and implementing a suitable and efficient system [21].…”

“…The efforts have mainly been focused on the definition of information exchange standards (HL7, 2010;ANSI, 2010). It is frequently assumed that cooperating data sources exchange information horizontally, probably with the help of data discovery services (Zhang and W. Xu, 2007). There are also some proposals that additionally consider the semantic level for data association (Lopez and Blobel, 2009;Hovenga, 2008).…”
