Systematic layout planning of wineries: the case of Rioja region (Spain)

Abstract: Winery design can be very varied - the consequence of different influences acting at different times of construction. Unlike the designs of other food industries, those of wineries are commonly influenced by aesthetics - sometimes to potentiate wine tourism, and sometimes to safeguard the agricultural landscape of which they are part. However, the functionality of the production space cannot be ignored; the efficient distribution of space in a winery contributes towards both economic and environmental sustaina… Show more

“…The simulation was conducted with reference to the weather data of Reggio Calabria (south Italy, 38.1° N, 15.6° E, CSa (Figure 5) following the Koppen classification) with typical Mediterranean climate features [39]. In the past, various housing solutions made of natural materials were proposed [40][41][42]. The peculiarity of the dwelling unit in question was the stratigraphy of the base module that, in addition to natural materials, such as cork, which has excellent thermal properties, also presented a layer of PCM (Phase Change Material), which is an "active" element.…”

“…The table lists the author(s), the layout design method, the focus of the paper, and the industrial or service sector where it was applied. The applications of the SLP procedure vary from the industrial sector [15]- [23] through the food [24]- [26] and construction [27] industries to the service sector [28]- [32]. Similarly, a wide variety of techniques have been integrated into the application of the SLP method, which include multicriteria decision techniques, such as AHP [15], [20], [29]- [31], [33] and fuzzy logic [18], [28], [29]; mathematical optimization algorithms [16], [20], [21], [27], [33], [34]; and simulation [18], [23], [24], [35], among others.…”

“…ISSN-L: 0020-0883. https://doi.org/10.3989/ic.84138 had a heating/cooling system that maintained the internal temperature at 15-17°C at all times. The building housed a large space devoted to wine ageing in barrels, a tasting room, a barrel washing room and some wine storage tanks; the other operations of the winemaking process (21), including the receipt and crushing of the grapes, fermentations, bottling, ageing in bottles, etc., were carried out in other buildings of the same winery. The building measured 120.43 m long, 60.43 m wide and 9.13 m high to the eaves.…”
