Systematic Review of Risks in Domestic and Global IT Projects

Abstract: The development of information technology projects is no longer limited to the domestic sphere. This study identifies the differentiation of risk categories between global and domestic projects through an exploratory research carried out by means of a systematic literature review. 1367 risks were identified in 37 articles and classified within 22 categories. The major concern regarded in domestic project management was the client (external risk) and scope (internal risk) and, in global project management, the … Show more

“…This concept is adopted from the project risk term, which is defined as “ an uncertain event or condition that, if it occurs, has a positive or a negative effect on a project objective .” 19 From normative rational theory, risk in project could be positive (opportunities) or negative (threats). 169,170,171,172,173 Positive challenges are associated with “opportunities” that could be gained from complexity aspects, and negative challenges are related with the “loss” from complexity condition. For instance, due to limited experience, several megaproject teams or stakeholders in developing countries often under uncertain conditions for structural aspect in the technology are to be applied.…”

“…In the dynamic environment of global competition, enterprise knowledge innovation is regarded as an important resource (Guan et al, 2018) for companies as they must rely on knowledge innovation to improve their competitiveness (Lin and Wei, 2018;Huarng et al, 2018). Companies are increasingly relying on global cooperation to continuously enhance their ability of knowledge innovation (Gao et al, 2018;Lanza et al, 2019;Li et al, 2019) by practicing globally distributed information technology (IT) projects (Stawnicza, 2014;Silveira et al, 2018), leading to the emerging global cooperation model. At the same time, effective knowledge sharing (KS) is crucial to the success of global cooperation (Hsu and Wang, 2008;Oyemomi et al, 2019;Wageman et al, 2012).…”
