Systemic View to Understanding Design Change Causation and Exploitation of Communications and Knowledge

Abstract: Frequent changes pervasively undermine project schedule performance. Despite voluminous research into project delays, however, the persistence of the problem demands that a systemic approach be adopted to investigate design change causation and to explore the efficacy of communications and knowledge as strategic project controls. Drawing on a hybrid research design, the critical variables are identified and mapped onto causal loop diagrams to enable practical holism. The findings indicate that effective projec… Show more

“…In another study, Leischow et al [42] discussed the importance of systems thinking in marketing by implementing a systemic approach to marketing management. Systems thinking approach was also adopted in risk management [47][48][49], medicine management [50][51][52], project management [53][54][55], quality management [56,57], and many other domains of management.…”

“…In another study, Yap et al (2017) opine that communication effectiveness and team cohesiveness among the key stakeholders significantly influence knowledge sharing. In this regard, effective KM can facilitate capacity building through best practices and reusable project knowledge (Yap et al , 2018; Yap et al , 2019).…”

“…In another study in Thailand, Teerajetgul and Chareonngam (2008) assert that tacit knowledge gained from experiences benefited construction projects for enhancing intuitive judgement and improving individual performance. Adopting and adapting project knowledge for reuse save on valuable resources in “reinventing the wheel” (duplicated efforts) and avoid critical mistakes using proven best practices learned from previous projects (Yap et al , 2018; Yap et al , 2019).…”
