T2‐based MRI Delta‐radiomics improve response prediction in soft‐tissue sarcomas treated by neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Abstract: Background Standard of care for patients with high‐grade soft‐tissue sarcoma (STS) are being redefined since neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has demonstrated a positive effect on patients' outcome. Yet response evaluation in clinical trials still relies on RECIST criteria. Purpose To investigate the added value of a Delta‐radiomics approach for early response prediction in patients with STS undergoing NAC. Study Type Retrospective. Population Sixty‐five adult patients with newly‐diagnosed, locally‐advanced, his… Show more

“…The radiomics features are calculated as the differences between two time points, divided by the features at the first time point (55). Several studies have utilized Δ-radiomics (56575859) to assess relative differences between pre- and post-treatment radiomics features and to predict outcomes and treatment responses. Δ-radiomics can also be regarded as “patient-specific” radiomics.…”

“…Second, we focused this proof-of-concept methodological study on T2-WI sequences but further investigations should be performed on other MRI sequences, such as T1-WI, contrast-enhanced T1-WI, DCE-MRI and diffusion imaging. We purposely chose this sequence because it is commonly reported as the most informative morphological sequence for sarcomas 8,20 . Third, our study design could be criticized.…”

“…In 2011, delta radiomics was successfully used to predict the response of metastatic renal cell cancer to tyrosine kinase inhibitor treatment 30 . Subsequently, delta radiomics showed predictive value for the chemotherapeutic response in colorectal liver metastases, rectal cancer and soft-tissue sarcoma 31 - 33 . Our study is the first application of delta radiomics to predict the chemotherapeutic response of GC at succedent instead of current timepoints.…”
