The carditid genus Cyclocardia is currently the most diverse genus of the family, including nearly 180 nominal species encompassing wide stratigraphical (Cretaceous-Recent) and geographical (Antarctica, South and North America, Europe, Africa, Alaska, Russia, Japan and New Zealand) ranges. Due to the lack of autapomorphies in the diagnosis of the genus and its large account of species, we re-evaluate the systematic and phylogenetic status of Cyclocardia. We applied three approaches: bibliographic revision, phylogenetic analysis and an exploration of morphological disparity. We used a shell-character matrix comprising 65 taxa (2 outgroups, 29 non-Cyclocardia carditids and 28 species of Cyclocardia) for phylogenetic and disparity analyses. Maximum Observable Rescaled Distances was used to construct a distance matrix to compare Cyclocardia species and other carditid groups. This nomenclator provides details on all published names in the family-, genus-, and species-group, as well as for a few infrasubspecific names introduced for, or attributed to, the family Melanopsidae. It includes nomenclaturally valid names, as well as junior homonyms, junior objective synonyms, nomina nuda, common incorrect subsequent spellings, and as far as possible discussion on the current status in taxonomy. The catalogue encompasses three family-group names, 79 genus-group names, and 1381 species-group names. All of them are given in their original combination and spelling (except mandatory corrections requested by the Code), along with their original source. For each family- and genus-group name, the original classification and the type genus and type species, respectively, are given. Data provided for species-group taxa are type locality, type horizon (for fossil taxa), and type specimens, as far as available.

Dehmicystis globulus is a very poorly known Lower Devonian solute echinoderm from the Hunsrück Slate of Germany. To date, only the holotype has been formally described; however, it is incomplete and does not preserve important characters of the group. We report three new individuals on the same slab of slate, one of which is almost complete. This material informs a full systematic redescription of the genus. The orientation and mode of life of solutes are contentious; our new morphofunctional data strongly suggest that Dehmicystis was oriented with the ambulacrum on the upper surface. Such a position implies a suspension feeding mode of life, with food particles captured from the current using the ambulacrum. The stele may have enabled limited movement on the sea floor but was principally responsible for support, anchorage, and (facultative) attachment.
