Tailor-made PL-UC-C3 nanoparticles for fluorescence/computed tomography imaging-guided cascade amplified photothermal therapy

Abstract: BackgroundDevelopment of the burgeoning number of photothermal therapy (PTT) agents has drawn a huge amount of interest, since PTT treatment is a powerful and effective alternative to traditional treatments. Optimal PTT agents should integrate some essential preconditions including negligible systemic toxicity, deep penetration into tumor tissues, and maximum laser energy absorbance. Unfortunately, only few of the PTT agents reported could meet all of the above mentioned conditions.MethodsHere, we report a bra… Show more

“…Comparison of cytotoxic effects generated by various types of PCL NPs synthesized by others indicates the safe profile of the nanocarrier. Independently of modification of the kind of NPs, the viability of model cell was not affected (Kiran et al 2018;Li et al 2019;Xie et al 2018).…”

“…The surface-coated amphiphilic polymer method makes UCNPs have a good stability in an aqueous solution, but it will increase the diameter of UCNPs. The method is also difficult and costly [ 126 ].…”

“…In detail, the hydrophobic segment of the amphiphilic polymer can combine with the hydrophobic ligand on the surface of UCNPs by hydrophobic interaction; meanwhile, the hydrophilic end of the amphiphilic polymer offers the modified UCNPs with great hydrophilicity (Wilhelm et al., 2015). Up to now, the reported amphiphilic polymers include poly‐e‐caprolactone–polyethylene‐polyglycol (Xie et al., 2018), poly(lactide)−poly(ethylene glycol) (Chen & He, 2015), 6‐aminohexanoic acid (Tsang et al., 2015), and so on. The amphiphilic polymer is generally difficult to manufacture and purify, which increases its cost.…”
