Targeted Metabolomic and Transcript Level Analysis Reveals Quality Characteristic of Chinese Wild Grapes (Vitis davidii Foex)

Abstract: Native to China, spine grapes (Vitis davidii Foex) are an important wild grape species. Here, the quality characteristics of one white and three red spine grape clones were evaluated via targeted metabolomic and transcription level analysis. Xiangzhenzhu (XZZ) had the highest soluble sugar and organic acid content. Malvidin-3-acetyl-glucoside and cyanidin-3-glucoside were the characteristic anthocyanins in spine grapes, and significant differences in anthocyanin composition between different clones were detect… Show more

“…The determination of anthocyanin profiles in wine samples was according to our previous reports (23,24). Briefly, the anthocyanin profiles were analyzed by a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system (Shimadzu Co., Ltd., Kyoto, Japan) fitted with a C 18 column (250 × 4.6 mm; Shimadzu Co., Ltd.).…”

“…4,5 The biosynthesis and accumulation of anthocyanins in red grapes are strongly influenced by genotypes, viticultural practices, and environmental factors such as sunlight exposure, temperature, UV irradiation, and water deficit. 3,[6][7][8][9] It is well known that light plays an important role in forming anthocyanins: shading can decrease the anthocyanin content with lower expressions of regulatory and structural genes, 3,7,10 while moderate exposure of grape berries to solar radiation will change hydroxylation patterns. 9,11 Leaf removal is a management practice adopted with the aim of improving cluster microclimates, to increase the exposure of grapes to sunlight and to reduce the incidence of disease and infection.…”
