Targeting NF-κB Signaling by Calebin A, a Compound of Turmeric, in Multicellular Tumor Microenvironment: Potential Role of Apoptosis Induction in CRC Cells

Abstract: Increasing lines of evidence suggest that chronic inflammation mediates most chronic diseases, including cancer. The transcription factor, NF-κB, has been shown to be a major regulator of inflammation and metastasis in tumor cells. Therefore, compounds or any natural agents that can inhibit NF-κB activation have the potential to prevent and treat cancer. However, the mechanism by which Calebin A, a component of turmeric, regulates inflammation and disrupts the interaction between HCT116 colorectal cancer (CRC)… Show more

“…NF-κB is a key promoter of tumorigenesis ( Buhrmann et al, 2020 ). Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) binds to related receptors, predominantly activating I-κB kinase to allow the translocation of NF-κB into the cell nucleus and induce target gene expression ( Yang et al, 2020 ).…”

“…Interestingly, since tumor cells’ altered metabolic processes are reversible, they represent promising therapeutic targets ( Figure 3 ). Naturally occurring phytochemicals are currently attracting attention in all areas of cancer research [ 137 , 388 , 389 , 390 , 391 , 392 , 393 , 394 , 395 , 396 , 397 , 398 , 399 , 400 , 401 , 402 ]. Among these phytochemicals, resveratrol is one of the best-known polyphenolic compounds.…”
