Abstract:Normal human cells can either synthesize or uptake cholesterol from lipoproteins to meet their metabolic requirements. Some malignant cells absolutely require cholesterol uptake from lipoproteins for survival because de novo cholesterol synthesis genes are transcriptionally silent or mutated.
