Patients suffering from head and neck cancers often require a multidisciplinary approach before and after surgery. Restoration of facial esthetics, speech, mastication and others often requires a long-lasting, divided rehabilitation. Quality of life (QOL) is measurable in a patient's life before and after surgery and complete treatment. The state of QOL has different parameters depending on the patient's clinical diagnosis, type of treatment and surgeries performed. In this paper, the authors are focusing on the quality of life of patients suffering from head and neck cancers and a proper multidisciplinary approach to achieving proper functions will be described. Also, the patient's self-esteem improvement and psychological evaluation is necessary (Adv Clin Exp Med 2014, 23, 6, 1019-1027).

Bu çalışmanın amacı, erişkinlerde nazal cerrahiden sonraki erken ve geç dönemde tat duyusu değişimlerini araş-tırmaktır. G Ge er re eç ç v ve e Y Yö ön nt te em ml le er r: : Çalışmaya 2005 ve 2007 yılları arasında, nazal septoplasti ve ESC geçiren 68 hasta dâhil edildi. Tüm hastalara preoperatif, postoperatif 1. haftada (erken) ve postoperatif 6. ayda (geç) tüm ağız tat testi uygulandı. Tat eşiklerini belirlemek için dört farklı tat örneği kullanıldı. Postoperatif tat eşikleri preoperatif eşiklerle karşılaştırıldı. Individual taste differences were first reported in the first half of the 20th century, but the primary reasons for these differences have remained uncertain. Much of the taste variation among different mammalian species can be explained by pseudogenization of taste receptors. In this study, by analyzing 14 ethnically diverse populations, we investigated whether the most recent disruptions of taste receptor genes segregate with their intact forms. Our results revealed an unprecedented prevalence of segregating loss-of-function (LoF) taste receptor variants, identifying one of the most pronounced cases of functional population diversity in the human genome. LoF variant frequency (2.10%) was considerably higher than the overall mutation rate (0.16%), and many humans harbored varying numbers of critical mutations. In particular, molecular evolutionary rates of sour (14.7%) and bitter receptors (1.8%) were far higher in humans than those of sweet (0.02%), salty (0.05%), and umami (0
